Harry was to act as the manager and receive a salary. Real estate to be used by his wife and after his wife's death it was to be sold. The tools and stock would be valued and half go to Harry. William and Alfred had the option to buy a quarter each. The money to be distributed equally between all his children; daughter would receive their share when 21.
It was said that William's sons worked at the 'Thomas Shaw Lion Spring Works' in Hill Top owned by the FIELD family (Mary FIELD married Alfred), but in 1889 and 1902, William CATTELL was lodging plans for Hill Top Foundry, at 35 Hill Top. This is listed in Kelly's Directory for 1896, as Hill Top Foundry Co. in Hill Top. I.e. there were two workshops.
In 1850 PO Directory, Hill Top Foundry Company has Benjamin Gill as managing partner, manufacturer of holloware, coffee mills etc. He is in the 1851 census in Hill Top, as an iron founder employing 62 men, 29 boys and 45 girls.
